He would never talk about it though and I think it was a very emotionally tough experience for him. The only other WW II vets in my side of the family that I was familiar with served in the Pacific theater.<br />Unlike here in the states where the opposition CSA forces are common, I wonder how many Germany Wehrmacht reinactors appear. I know that in the UK World War 2 events are common and there were German forces represented but it sometimes was controversial. Too recent and too painful for many.<br />Taking it back a another generation, your great grandfather Wm W Sample jr was an Army Lt. in the 2nd Division and I have a copy of his well-written account of the final days of the Great War. I saw many examples of his writing ability over the years and he would certainly be proud of your talent! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
