Semper Fidelis

Today marks the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.  As is the case around the world, every year the Marines throw themselves a birthday ball.  In the Embassy community, this ball is usually the biggest social event of the year.  It is an opportunity to pick out the perfect dress, hire a sitter and go out for the night.  Some people really live it up and dance until the wee hours of the morning.  Yes pomp, circumstance, and tradition have a large role in the evening's affairs but we need to all remember the real  reason behind the event.  At the birthday ball we honor and remember Marines past, present, and future, who put their lives on the line to defend and protect our country.  That is what the evening is really all about.
